La insuficiencia cardiaca es una de las enfermedades más prevalentes en los países desarrollados. La morbilidad y la mortalidad de los pacientes con insuficiencia cardiaca sigue siendo importante pese a los avances en la terapia farmacológica. En los últimos años, los resultados de diversos ensayos clínicos han conducido a la incorporación del desfibrilador automático implantable y la estimulación biventricular (o terapia de resincronización cardiaca) en el tratamiento de los pacientes con insuficiencia cardiaca crónica. El propósito de esta revisión es, por tanto, presentar la evidencia disponible para la utilización de estos dispositivos en la práctica clínica habitual.
